He refused to give in - he struggled against being put to sleep and left to die - even though people mistook him for some kind of alien mouse and not a kitten. About Mighty Mouse
Born in a litter of 6 to a beautiful Birman queen, the kittens looked to have a good start being normal weight. But within 24 hours, their mother had no milk and the kittens needed to be handraised. By the time he was 11 days old, barely hanging on to life, 2 of the kittens had died. He was the size of a mouse and weighed less than 100grams when he was a week old. His breeder struggled to hand feed the remaining 4 kittens without help, but it was an impossible task. She took him to the vet at 4 weeks to be put to sleep. But something about him persuaded the vet not to put him down. When I first encountered him, HE WOULDN'T STOP PURRING. In order to save the older 3 kittens, MM was destined to die - his luck had run out, and that's when I took him. It was his last chance and all the odds were against him. He weighed 210grams - which is about 7 ounces at 4.3 weeks and was mistaken at the vet's for an exotic Mouse. NOBODY expected him to live. But he had other ideas. Gorgeous to see the two action cats resting.Amazing that Oliver is now big enough to be Mr D'Arcy's pillow. It is delightful to see them together.Mr D will certainly have to be one of the cast of characters in the book.

ReplyDeleteThey raced around like crazy all morning....and now they are back EXACTLY like they are in those photos....in bed, doing nothing!
Oh Coral!! Looking at Oliver now, my goodness, he just keeps getting more cat-like by the day! He looks so big and strong and healthy. Bless you and Masses of hugs and kisses for Oliver :) xxxooo
